Society Library

The Library is the home for the Genealogy SA collection of genealogy and family history information resources.

What: The Library is predominantly a reference library although some books are available for loan to members.

The Library holds the largest collection of family history information in South Australia and specialises in South Australian genealogical material. The Library Catalogue holds in excess of 30,000 items.

Whilst the collection specialises in South Australian information, there are comprehensive collections from other Australian States and Europe. See the Library Acquisitions Policy for details of how we intend to grow the collection..

The Library houses a number of comprehensive on-line data bases. Modern computer facilities are available to access these databases and also the internet. The Society also has on-line accessfor Library users to major subscription websites including Ancestry, Findmypast and The Genealogist.

The Library is well equipped with microfiche and microfilm readers, printers and photocopiers. There is a small charge for printing and photocopying. All Library users are subject to copyright requirements.

Where: 201 Unley Rd, Unley, past the Unley Council, but before the Cremorne Hotel.

When: The Library opens :
  Tuesdays between 10.30 am and 9.00 pm
  
Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 10.30am to 4.30 pm
  
2nd and 4th Sundays each month, 1.00 pm to 4.30pm
  The library is closed on Monday and Friday for Society project work, transcriptions and for the Research Co-ordinator.

Who: The library welcomes both members and visitors, including persons with a disability.

A visitor fee applies for other than first time visitors for whom one free hour of supervised introductory access is available. Visitor's fees are $8 per hour, $15 per half day and $30 per full day. For visitors who decide to join up as members their visitor's fees for that day can be offset against the membership fee.

How: During public opening hours experienced volunteers are available to assist Library users.

All users are expected to behave with respect for other users, and for the library, its equipment and contents. Library rules include restrictions on eating or drinking within the library proper, mobile phone usage, flash photography, out of control children, personal and property security, and issues related to the health, safety and welfare of staff, volunteers and users.
